Lubeznik Center for the Arts (LCA) is the hub for arts and culture in the region, fostering the investigation of contemporary ideas and presenting relevant exhibitions and programs. LCA interweaves art exhibitions, educational programming and collaborative community outreach in order to improve the quality of life in the region.
Lubeznik’s Literacy Through the Arts program serves 6 elementary afterschool sites and combines a creative visual arts curriculum with academic literacy standards to provide much-needed literacy support to area students. This innovative program weaves development of comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills with creating beautiful artworks based on texts and artworks that engage students in discussion, collaboration and independent thinking in an inclusive learning environment. Summative assessments show great improvements and growth in various literacy skills, and the students also report and exhibit gains in self-expression, confidence, and pride in their work, which is the very core of Lubeznik’s educational mission.
LCA provides all people to participate in and enjoy the arts regardless of their ability to pay for the experiences. LCA provides outreach to La Porte County children and teens to encourage academic success and engage families in their children's education through the arts.
